Oats Idli


  • 2 cups Oats
  • 1 tbsp. mustard seeds
  • ½ tbsp. chana dal
  • ½ litre curd
  • 1/2 tbsp. oil
  • 1 tbsp. black gram
  • 1 cup grated carrots
  • 2 tbsp. chopped coriander
  • Salt as per taste
  • ½ tbsp. turmeric powder


First, dry roast the oats and grind them in powdered form. Add oil in a pan and to that add mustard seeds and dal till you hear splattering. Then add turmeric, coriander, and carrots and fry for around 1 minute. In another bowl mix oats, curd and this mix till it becomes like your regular batter. Make your regular idlis using a steamer and kids will adore this healthy snack.

Moong dal chila


  • 200 grams Moong dal or green gram
  • 50 grams chopped peas
  • 1 chopped onion
  • ¼ tbsp. baking soda
  • Chopped Cilantro
  • Peeled and grated ginger
  • 2 green chilies (chopped)
  • 2 garlic pods
  • Salt to taste
  • Water
  • ¼ tsp. turmeric powder

Soak the Moong dal for at least 8 hours. Drain the water in the morning and blend with ginger, chilies, garlic, turmeric, and salt. You can add water as that makes the batter smooth. Heat your tava or skillet and grease with oil. Pour the batter on it and smoothen it into round shape. Flip it over as needed until both sides are properly cooked. One of the easy recipes, the Moong dal chila is an eternal favorite with kids.

  • 1 cup sago
  • 2 potatoes peeled and diced
  • Curry leaves
  • ½ cup peanuts
  • 2 green chilies
  • ½ tsp. mustard seeds, Urad dal, and cumin seeds

  • 2 tbsp. Oil

Also considered as a great evening snack for kids, the sago Khichdi is easy to make. You will have to soak the sabudana for nearly 45 minutes.  Ground the peanuts into a smooth paste but make sure to roast them before doing so. Take a pan and add oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and Urad Dal. Once they start spluttering add green chilies and some curry leaves. After some time add sago and salt and let it cook. Once the sago becomes transparent add the ground roasted peanuts and serve with raita.

Chapatti Rolls


  • Chapatti
  • Onions, tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, capsicum all finely chopped
  • Mashed Paneer
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 ½ tsp. coriander powder
  • ½ tsp. garam masala

Fairly quick to cook they prove to be nutritious snacks for kids. Heat oil in a pan and fry all the vegetables that you have chopped. Later add salt, garam masala, and paneer and let it cook. Place this mixture into a chapatti and your roll is ready.
